Position Summary

The Tax Director will play a hands-on role in supporting the organization’s tax strategy, actively preparing and providing critical information to external tax advisors who finalize federal and state income tax returns. Based in our Alpharetta, GA head office, you will be a proactive member of our in-house finance team, reporting directly to the CFO. This role requires direct engagement in tax data analysis, compliance support, including sales tax filings and audits, and technology utilization, while also collaborating on non-tax finance initiatives with the CFO to drive organizational success.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Actively compile, analyze, and provide accurate data and supporting documentation to external tax advisors for the preparation of federal and state income tax returns.
  • Directly respond to and resolve queries from tax authorities, including those related to sales tax filings, ensuring timely and professional communication.
  • Hands-on coordination of tax return processes for the company’s international subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with global tax regulations.
  • Lead and participate in audits of federal, state, and local tax filings, including sales tax audits, actively gathering and organizing required data for external advisors.
  • Actively support the preparation and review of sales tax filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Perform detailed accounting for income taxes across U.S. subsidiaries, ensuring precision in financial reporting.
  • Develop and implement transfer pricing and management fee arrangements, working closely with operational teams to align with business needs.
  • Proactively support compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws, including sales tax regulations, staying informed of regulatory changes through active research and application.
  • Collaborate directly with operating management on tax issues, including sales tax matters, and accounting staff on tax accounting matters, fostering a team-oriented approach.
  • Design and maintain robust internal controls for tax accounting processes, testing and refining them as needed.
  • Support tax planning initiatives in partnership with external advisors, taking a lead role in data preparation and strategy execution.
  • Actively contribute to non-tax finance projects as assigned by the CFO, applying hands on problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Oversee and manage property tax filings, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting; CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of direct, hands-on experience in tax accounting, including experience supporting sales tax filings, queries, and audits, with a proven track record of working with external advisors.
  • Demonstrated experience thriving in a collaborative, team-based environment, with a focus on active participation.
  • Strong ability to engage with internal and external senior stakeholders, communicating complex tax matters, including sales tax issues, clearly and effectively.
  • Proficient in leveraging multiple reporting platforms (e.g., tax software, ERP systems (Oracle Fusion Cloud an advantage), sales tax compliance tools) to identify trends and drive actionable insights.
  • Solid understanding of general accounting principles and their application in a tax context, including sales tax compliance.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and tax-specific software (Avalara an advantage) for data analysis and reporting.
  • Highly organized, with a strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines efficiently.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality work.
  • Independent problem-solver with strong analytical skills and the ability to adapt to evolving challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Role based in Alpharetta, GA, with a commitment to in-office collaboration.
